WILL YOU EXPERIENCE

The SAUGEEN BRUCE PENINSULA?

BOOK CABINS

Generations of families have enjoyed vacationing at the Red Bay Lodge. Exploring everything the Bruce Peninsula has to offer, including sunsets, rocks, beaches, cliffs, fishing, shipwrecks, & trails. The Bruce Peninsula is a dark sky community and you have to be here to appreciate the millions of stars on a clear night, and maybe even get a chance to see the Aurora Borealis.

It took millions of years for sediments to compress into the richly-layered, rugged coastline of the Bruce Peninsula. From small villages such as Red Bay encased in ancient forests, to meandering trails and coastline, much of it remains authentically beautiful, rugged and untouched. Imagine yourself spending the day at the beach, or exploring one of the peninsula’s outstanding trails, offering a variety of all difficulties and lengths.

Climb along The Bruce Trail & the limestone cliffs of Lion’s Head, a spot exactly halfway between the equator and the North Pole. You can also enjoy some of the world’s best Dark Sky stargazing far from the light pollution of the city. Here the stars in the sky are so plentiful you can’t help but be impressed.

A short drive north from the Lodge in Tobermory awaits boat tours to visit the towering rock pillars of Flower Pot Island. Exploring in the 156 sq. km of Bruce Peninsula National Park includes the wildly popular Grotto along Georgian Bay’s coast. Canada’s best scuba diving can be found in Fathom Five National Marine Park with its sunken shipwrecks, underwater forests, canyons and waterfalls.

What Makes The Bruce Peninsula Unique To Travel To

The Bruce Peninsula has an unusually rich diversity of habitats & habitants. Bruce Peninsula is rich in wetlands, woods trails, meadows and overgrown fields, open waters, shorelines, flats, Niagara Escarpment cliffs, inland lakes, rivers and ponds. Inland lakes and ponds are full of natural life and they are excellent for bird watching, plants, flower and animal observation as well as for fishing, swimming, canoeing and boating.

Plants/Flowers - More then 40 different orchids bloom on the Bruce Peninsula. Half of the world‘s Dwarf Lake Iris, most of Canada’s Indian Plantain, rare Rubberweed, Lakeside Daisy and Pitcher Plant find home here. Lichens and Ferns are one of the oldest living inhabitants of our planet. Some lichens here are thought to be 4500 years old. Thirty-nine of the forty Ferns found in Ontario are on the Bruce Peninsula

Animals/Birds Birding is excellent on The Bruce Peninsula, and our proximity to Sky Lake, Oliphant, Petrel Point, & Lake Huron provides a fantastic opportunity to see some of the following species:

Pied-billed Grebes, Mallards, Wood Ducks, Blue Winged Teal, Great Blue Heron, American Bittern, Osprey, Snipe, Woodcock, Kingfisher, Pileated Woodpeckers, Wrens, Swallows, Warblers, Red-winged Blackbird, Virginia Rail and Sora can be found in local wetlands. Red-headed Woodpecker, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Scarlet Tanager, Blue Jays, Northern Oriole, Indigo Bunting, Great Horned, Barred, Eastern Screech, Saw-whet Owls, Sharp-shinned Hawks, Cooper’s Hawk, Goshawk, Broad-winged, Red Shouldered and Red-tailed Hawks

Stargaze & Amaze - The Bruce Peninsula has been designated as a “Dark Skies Community”.

Swimming & Beaches - Red Bay Beach is one of the best on the Huron Coast!

Bruce Trail Hiking - Bruce trail is Ontario’s the most popular hiking trail. Niagara Escarpment is recognized by United Nation as an ecologically important area in the world with unique natural features. Several accesses to the famous Bruce Trail are only 20 minutes away.

Flower Pot Island - Two flower pots (seastacks) were created by ancient sea waves pounding. They are covered by dense forest, glens, meadows, flowers and surrounded by crystal clear water.

Explore Large Caves - Bruce Caves have some of the biggest limestone caves in Ontario. They were also washed out by waves of ancient sea and they are 20 meters above Georgian Bay.

Swim In Waterfalls - Falls over escarpment- Inglis Falls, Walters Falls, Indian Falls.

Other attractions - Rural Gardens, Fish Hatchery, Buffalo Farms, Wiarton Willie, Light Houses, Spirit Rock, Keady Farmers Market.
